After working on a community of caring, the neighbourhood has suggested prototyping a building, a former palatial home, as a hostel.
Ttpi Gara, a cooperative dedicated to implementing and streamlining collaborative design processes and services in the city, organisations and community environments.
Tipi’s proposal was based on the use of theories from the discipline of Future Studies and the methodological approaches of Speculative Design to accompany the community of Angiozar in prototyping this care-focused hostel.
People of very different ages participated in the project and this led to the creation of an intergenerational process. The participants worked on the collective memory of the place, as well as on the future of both the town and the building. They considered how macro-social trends might affect Angiozar and discovered how they affect people and their lifestyles and feelings by devising possible future scenarios.
Following several collaborative work sessions during which speculative and future design methodologies were used, the prototyping of uses for Gariketxe was defined in the creation of a space primarily dedicated to providing services linked to the care, well-being and health of the people in the community of Angiozar. The idea is for this service to be combined with other activities of a public-private nature that can help to generate resources and contribute to maintaining the space (creating a commissary, co-working space or hostel, among other ideas). The focus is on the importance of defining the ownership of the building, for which a mixed model of participatory management is proposed.
