ORGANISATION

Hasiera is a social integration centre managed by the Bizkaia Anti-AIDS Citizen Committee that treats 15 people with different mental health and social precariousness problems.
 

CHALLENGE

To design the next annual exhibition of objects made in its recycling workshop, as well as to seek the participation of a different other to reflect on the centre as a whole.

IMPROBABLE COLLABORATOR

Zaramari is a producer of ideas working on models of sustainable development based on creativity and citizen involvement. Its daily practice revolves around consultancy, cultural management and production, non-formal education, communication and architecture as tools to (re)invent territory in a collaborative and creative manner.

PROCESS

Zaramari proposed taking the idea of ​​temporary shelter, and some of its features, to Hasiera’s process of reflection, initiating collaborative design dynamics and helping to build a shared vision of uses and a new layout in the centre’s premises.

Two aspects were discussed:

• Temporality, given that the exhibition was about watches made by people receiving treatment at the centre. A story was constructed around this concept that was incorporated into the design of the exhibition. Searching for quotes, readings, song lyrics, films, works of art and thoughts by the group on the passage of time helped to share personal and group experiences on how and in what specific locations the time that passes in Hasiera elapses.
• Spatial distribution of the centre: how people viewed the different uses of the premises at different times of the day led to thoughts on spatial distribution to suggest improvements in the layout of the premises.

RESULTS

All this culminated in the design of the exhibition and a redistribution of the spaces occupied by Hasiera in the premises.
