San Sebastián Turismo-Donostia Turismo has staged a Improbable Innovation Path Workshop together with Conexiones improbables under the title “Inspiration for Innovation in Tourism Products and Services”.

The Donostia/San Sebastián tourism board wanted to go beyond the traditional creation of a product and so worked on the know-how and incorporation of open innovation tools and methodologies as applied to everyday management.

The workshop was aimed at member partners of San Sebastián Turismo-Donostia Turismo and was attended by people responsible for hotel accommodation, catering and gastronomy services, tourist guides, shops and organisations aimed at improving the experiences of people visiting Donostia/San Sebastián.

Following a conceptual introduction about open innovation, the workshop used various visual and design thinking tools developed by Conexiones improbables, such as Taking on the improbable or “Chain of questions”. Some of the questions raised by the people who participated in the workshop were: Do you like to take risks in your business? Is it worth sitting around and doing nothing? Is tourism good? Can it be improved?

Finally, each participant ended up designing his or her own individual Path to Innovation, whose goal was the collective innovation challenges of San Sebastián Turismo-Donostia Turismo.

The Workshop also presented the Creative Pill to be carried out by the organisation, whose aim is to involve as many members as possible. The workshop therefore served as an element of motivation for them to become involved in this collective project.
